Writers Workshop:
Writing and Illustrating My Own Poetry
Kathy Hubbard
1:00 – 3:00 pm, beginning January 24th
10 weeks $100
Ages 8 and up. Creative writing is fun and teaches children the importance of spelling,
grammar and sentence construction. Each class will begin with the reading of exemplary
children's poetry to allow the students to hear good writing while opening up their
imaginations. Using this literature as a guide, students will learn about the mechanics of
writing through the creation, development and revision of his or her own poems. We will
focus on several different forms of poetry: rhyming, haiku and open verse. For a final
project the children will choose, revise and illustrate his or her best work to be part of our
class "literary journal".
Space is limited. Early registration recommended.
