Go Green Day at Blue Ball Barn

Alapocas Run State Park will be hosting its first “Go Green Day” at the Blue Ball Barn!

Visitors to the park will learn about “Green,” or environmentally friendly, principles. The Blue Ball Barn itself was reconstructed utilizing LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) building components. This event can be enjoyed by all age groups. Games, crafts, displays, hikes and informative talks will be offered. You can also learn about Delaware’s natural environment and the wide range of outdoor recreational activities the area has to offer.

“Go Green Day” participants include Wilmington Trails Club, Delaware Solid Waste Authority, AmeriCorps, Delaware Greenways, The Delaware Invasive Species Council, Delaware Ride Share, Brandywine Zoo’s Traveling Zoo, Friends of Wilmington Parks, Delaware Bicycle Council, Master Gardeners, Archeological Society of Delaware, and local folk artists.

Delaware State Parks
The Blue Ball Barn is located on West Park Drive in north Wilmington, just off route 202 near the intersection of route 141 and Foulk Road.

Delaware State Parks entrance fees:
parking fees are in effect March 1 – Nov 30th.
$3.00 for in-state vehicles
$6.00 for out-of-state vehicles.
Vehicles displaying a current Delaware State Parks annual permit are exempt from daily parking fees.


More about Alapocas Run State Park:
The Blue Ball Barn is the center piece of Alapocas Run State Park. This historic dairy barn, reconstructed and adapted for modern day use, is now a conference center with galleries. It is home to the Delaware Folk Art Collection and historical exhibits. The Northern Delaware Greenway Trail runs through the park and features wonderful views of the Alapocas Woods Natural Area, natural rock walls of Delaware blue rock, the Brandywine River and the historic Bancroft Mills. Other Park features include the Can Do Playground and ruins of the Weldin Plantation. Multi-use athletic fields and picnic areas are also planned. Alapocas Run State Park hours are 8am - sunset, year round. The Blue Ball Barn is open to the public 9am - 4pm, 7-days a week.
