Oasis in Space ~ Planetarium Show: at the Delaware Museum of Natural History!

Exploring the galaxy in search of water.
June 16 through July 8, 2012

Monday through Saturday:
Every 30 minutes from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Sunday: Every 30 minutes from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
(no showings at noon)

In conjunction with Earth from Space, the Museum's latest traveling exhibit on display June 16 through September 3, the Delaware Museum of Natural History proudly presents Oasis in Space, a spectacular, limited-run planetarium show.  Visitors will embark on a startling and beautiful voyage through our universe and galaxy, and travel through our Solar System visiting all of our planets in search of water - a key ingredient for life on Earth.

Oasis in Space will be shown at timed intervals throughout its limited run. These special presentations are free with admission; however, seating is limited and is on a first-come, first-served basis. 

ADMISSION: 
$9 for adults
$7 for children (3-17)
$8 for seniors
FREE for children 2 andyounger.
FREE for museum members.

Photography Camps at Longwood Gardens!


Photojournalism: Longwood Up Close
July 16–20
9:00 am–2:00 pm
Ages 11–15
$180/Members
$200/non-Members

Campers will explore Longwood’s different ecosystems while journaling the wonders of nature through digital photography (cameras provided). Longwood’s experts will highlight different ecological areas within the Gardens, while campers capture amazing images. Campers will create digital stories with a laptop (provided) using Photo Story 3. They will also have an opportunity to have fun with some hands-on, garden-based projects in this week long camp.

Location: Catalpa Classroom, and in and around the Gardens—rain or shine
Please dress appropriately, no flip flops, hats and sunscreen suggested
Lunch: Please bring a brown bag lunch, no thermoses.

Longwood’s experts will highlight different ecological areas within the Gardens, while campers capture amazing images. Each camper will create an iMovie with the iPad 2 and have an opportunity to complete some hands-on, garden-based projects in this week long camp. Students must provide their own iPad2 for this camp.

Location: Catalpa Classroom, and in and around the Gardens—rain or shine
Please dress appropriately, no flip flops, hats and sunscreen suggested
Lunch: Please bring a brown bag lunch, no thermoses.

Zooming in on Nature: Digital Photography
August 6–10

Middle and High School Students

Aspiring photographers will learn the key elements of digital photography while taking photographs that convey the magnificent gardens of Longwood. Students will develop skills to capture and communicate nature’s beauty in this one week camp experience. No equipment necessary. Digital cameras will be provided for the week-long camp experience, but students are welcome to bring their own.

Intro to Open Education: Homeschooling to Unschooling!

Open Connections, an educational resource center and learning community for young people and their families, is giving a presentation for those just starting out with home education or for those interested in pursuing home education.  This two-hour presentation provides parents and guardians with information on how to comply easily and fairly with the state law and how to create the educational path that is right for their family.  The discussion includes numerous examples of resources and alternatives to conventional curricula.
