JULY

Programs for ages 3 to 10 scheduled for Thursdays at 10 and 11 a.m.;
Programs for ages 10 to 14 scheduled for Tuesdays at 10 a.m.
* Thematic guided tour followed by a hands-on art project.

Museum Explorer Mornings
ages 3 to 10 accompanied by an adult

Each workshop lasts 90 minutes

July 10 - Cool Colors
Children will explore what colors are hot and what colors are not! On a gallery tour, they will learn how artists use colors to create paintings, then design a colorful composition using oil pastels.
July 17 - Treasure Tales
Children will discover Treasure Island and other pirate stories through illustrations from the museum's collection, then decorate a box to hold small treasures using assorted gems, shells and other materials.
July 24 - Animated Animals
Children will search the museum for animals of every shape and size in paintings and sculpture, and then create a three-dimensional animal from pipe cleaners, pompoms and more!
July 31 - Seasonal Scenes
Children will journey through four seasons in scenes of lazy summer days, fall foliage, winter wonderlands and spring blossoms. Afterwards, they will make a tissue paper landscape of a favorite time of year.


Advanced Explorer Workshops
ages 10 to 14.

The days and themes are:

July 8 - Shadows and Shapes
Children will learn artists' techniques for making painted and drawn objects look real, including their use of scale, shading, shapes and color, and then create still life compositions with oil pastels.
July 15 - Putting It into Perspective
Children will analyze artists' depictions of interior and exterior spaces, including their use of line, perspective and scale, and then capture the museum building from different angles in pencil and watercolor.
July 22 - Portrait Study
Children will investigate how artists create likeness whether portraying famous persons or close friends, and then experiment with pose and setting while drawing a self-portrait.

UU Homeschool Community Co-op

New Homeschool Co-op!
Beginning September 2008!!
The UUCH is an inclusive, secular homeschool co-op meeting at the UUFN in Newark (www.uufn.org) and serving the surrounding homeschool communities of Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. UUCH's vision is to foster friendships and a sense of community by providing diverse, enriching and educational programs in an accepting and safe environment and creating a sense of connection by offering regular meetings and activities.

Tuesday afternoons
Small classes for various age levels.

Currently planning class schedules for the fall semester.

Parents with a special interest, hobby, field of study, etc., are invited to instruct one of our classes. As a co-op, parent volunteers make the classes happen. There are also other opportunities and requirements for volunteering such as aiding in the preschool class, aiding in co-op classes, janitorial, etc.

The spectrum of class subjects is as broad as the facilitator’s imagination. Some examples include Pottery, Foreign Languages, Literature, Knitting, Sewing, Quilting, Chemistry, Woodworking, Math games, Photography, Drama, Journalism, History of Delaware, etc...

The fall semester will run for twelve weeks, and each Tuesday there are three one-hour long sessions. Teaching fees, course materials, etc., will be paid for by the parents of co-op students.

Registration packets will be available in July and registration will be due August 5th.

Family event and parent meeting in August.

Classes will begin September 9th, 2008.
