The Nutcraker by Anna Marie Dance Studio at Archmere Academy Theater!

Come see homeschoolers, Billie Rose and Teddy in this wonderful rendition of the season favorite, The Nutcracker!

Teddy is a soldier in the battle scene and Billie Rose dances as a mouse in the battle scene and an angel in the Sugar Plum Fairy scene! Besides the charming and heartfelt performances by my children, (yes, I am biased) this production of the Nutcracker includes many, many, talented young people from the award winning Anna Marie Dance Studio. Also featured, as the Sugar Plum Fairy is the very lovely and beautiful Russian ballerina, Miss Anya. The battle scene is one of the most elaborately choreographed, by the enormously talented and charismatic Mr. Sonny Leo. And, the Christmas Tree in the party scene! This is no mere cloth and string effect. The tree is a fully decked out, three dimensional, growing and grandiose Christmas Tree. Thank you Mr. Bill!

There are lots of opportunities to see the Nutcracker in our area. This one promises to be a notch above the many. Unless you are traveling to NYC, you couldn't ask for a better time.

The Whirling Dervishes Of Istanbul: Special Group Pricing Arrangement!

The Whirling Dervishes Of Istanbul
at the Annenburg Center

With special host Coleman Barks
Presented by the Philadelphia Society for Art, Literature and Music, and Philadelphia Dialogue Forum – in coordination with Penn Presents

The peaceful tradition of Sufism teaches personal development through worship of God, self-discipline and social responsibility. The Sufi's way of life is to love and be of service to people; and through the ceremony of the Whirling Dervishes founded 800 years ago by Jelaluddin Rumi, audiences gain an insight into one of the remarkable ways of achieving this goal. The program celebrates the UNESCO International Year of Rumi, and opens with select readings of Rumi by acclaimed author, Coleman Barks, and musical accompaniment by renowned cellist David Darling and virtuoso world percussionist Glen Velez. The second half of the evening features the spell binding performance of the Whirling Dervishes, with Turkish master musicians, who demonstrate the ancient ritual of turning. Come and be entranced by this centuries-old art form.

Homeschooler, Michele R., has arranged for a special group price for the performance on Friday, December 14, at 8 PM. Tickets are $18 per person for rear orchestra. She must have confirmation, payment and a self addressed stamped envelope by December 1. Michele will be mailing everyone their tickets prior to the show because the theater won't allow her to leave tickets at the box office for pick up. BrainPop.com

My family loves this site!

BrainPOP is an educational program providing content spanning 7 main subjects, including: Science, Math, English, Social Studies, Health, Arts and Music, and Technology.

We have watched these movies over and over. The kids take the quizzes offered after each movie. They have subscription packages for families as well as homeschoolers. They offer teacher support and are working on offering lesson plans in the future. You try out BrainPop for days for free, thereafter you need to purchase a subscription.

The only way to really understand what BrainPop is all about is to log on and try it for yourself!

BrainPOP.com

*Just a quick note about Homeschool Happenings! and clicking on the links I provide:
I opt not to receive payment or rewards of any kind for the links that I provide on Homeschool Happenings. For example; I could subscribe as a publisher and receive a commission every time someone clicks through my site and then joins BrainPop. I don't do this because I want my readers to trust the information I recommend and share. I am not doing this for profit but rather to build a better homeschooling community for all our kids...

All Boys Dance Class!

What a wonderful idea!
The award winning Anna Marie Dance Studio is offering, new for this fall, an all boys dance class. The class will be taught personally by Mr. Sonny Leo. Anyone who knows locally produced theater in Wilmington surely knows Mr. Sonny. He is a darling. Mr. Sonny has worked as drama teacher and musical theater director at Mt. Pleasant High School. This past winter he starred as Judas in Godspell at the Wilmington Drama league and, most exciting, he performed in a featured role as the pianist in Forty Second Street at Walnut Street Theater in Philadelphia. Sonny is the Artistic Director at Anna Marie Dance Studio and also teachers Jazz, Tap, Lyrical and Musical Theatre. I have not met a student yet, who has studied with Mr. Sonny, who has not adored him. I know I gush, but believe me, Mr. Sonny is deserving.

The "New All Boys Dance Class" will feature dance moves related to sports. Tap will also be taught to help with timing. The class is beginning offered beginning this fall on Thursdays 5:30 - 6:30 p.m.. Boys must between 7-10 years of age. For additional information you may call the studio: 302-475-3949.

Anna Marie Dance studio has a full range of dance instruction. All three of my kids have been taking lessons there for years and I highly recommend their programs. You can learn more on their web site:
