CHILDREN LEARN BY DOING

This weekly two-hour group for 5 and 6 year olds will embrace the natural curiosity of the young child in both group and individual work. Children will pursue the worlds of mathematics, science, reading & writing using hands on and a multi-disciplinary approach. Program led by veteran teacher Debby Rosan.

Touching on topics from chemistry and biology, and to a lesser extent, physics, with an emphasis placed on thinking carefully about scientific systems.

Details:
The more-intense classes are meant for students who feel capable of doing creative problem-solving. Students will investigate important concepts from traditional curriculum, as well as having many opportunities to solve challenging, non-routine problems in both real-world and abstract contexts. The pace at which material is "covered" will depend on the particular students.

The less-intense classes are meant for students who are just starting to develop, or haven't developed, their ability to think about math in a non-formulaic way. The topics will come from a traditional curriculum, but the emphasis will be on investigating these topics in a way that builds mathematical thinking skills rather than getting through a laundry list of skills.

High-school level courses and more-intense middle school course will most likely be very loosely based on the Interactive Mathematics Program and resources from the Art of Problem Solving, while the less-intense middle school courses will be slightly less loosely based on the Connected Mathematics 2 curriculum. Instructor will be supplementing with his own materials as well.

The One Room Schoolhouse offers support for home-schooled youth (ages 9-12) in the areas of creative writing, humanities, local history, poetry, public speaking, and Shakespeare.

For adults, class offerings include:
creative writing, Shakespeare, poetry, and local history.

Genealogy is offered one-on-one by appointment.

The One Room Schoolhouse a great site for field trip opportunities and a consignment connection for teaching materials and resources.

The Schoolhouse offers a warm creative environment to learn through experiencing, practicing and interacting with others. Students touch a bit of the past in a unique blend of antiques, art, and technology. Class offerings are posted on our website. Individual projects and help can be scheduled by appointment.

UU Homeschool Community Co-op

New Homeschool Co-op!

Beginning September 2008!!
The UUCH is an inclusive, secular homeschool co-op meeting at the UUFN in Newark (www.uufn.org) and serving the surrounding homeschool communities of Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. UUCH's vision is to foster friendships and a sense of community by providing diverse, enriching and educational programs in an accepting and safe environment and creating a sense of connection by offering regular meetings and activities.

Tuesday afternoons

Small classes for various age levels.

Currently planning class schedules for the fall semester.

Parents with a special interest, hobby, field of study, etc., are invited to instruct one of our classes. As a co-op, parent volunteers make the classes happen. There are also other opportunities and requirements for volunteering such as aiding in the preschool class, aiding in co-op classes, janitorial, etc.

The spectrum of class subjects is as broad as the facilitator’s imagination. Some examples include Pottery, Foreign Languages, Literature, Knitting, Sewing, Quilting, Chemistry, Woodworking, Math games, Photography, Drama, Journalism, History of Delaware, etc...

The fall semester will run for twelve weeks, and each Tuesday there are three one-hour long sessions. Teaching fees, course materials, etc., will be paid for by the parents of co-op students.

Registration packets will be available in July and registration will be due August 5th.

Family event and parent meeting in August.

Classes will begin September 9th, 2008.

City Gates Academy is a Christian cooperative school. The City Gates curriculum is designed for families who desire cooperative involvement in their child(ren)’s education. Weekly classroom instruction provides the framework for parent-assisted education at home. Open House and Now Enrolling: Echo Christian Based Co-op

Open House!

April 29
Now taking enrollments for the 2008-2009 school year.
Open to home school and cyber school families, Echo is a grades K - 12 Christian based co-op, meeting one day a week on Tuesdays at Camp of the Old Mill near Downingtown (off route 322/route 82). Echo's focus is to provide a place for the whole family to fellowship and learn.

Upper grades (7th - 12th)
A college prep oriented co-op offering the core subjects of History, English, Science & Math in both the Jr high and Sr high programs. Echo tracks to the PHAA diploma program though families may choose which diploma program (if any) they would like to use. Specific courses offered will depend upon interest and demand. Electives have not yet been determined. Preference is given to students enrolling full-time in the core subjects of English, math, history and science and then we will take students that wish to enroll for one or more courses. We welcome and accept drop-off students. Classes are limited to 15 students.

Elementary (K - 6th)
In the elementary program Echo offers academically enriching classes including History, Science, critical thinking/math skills, and writing/literature. In addition to these core subjects, other classes will be added if there is interest, eg. music, art, drama, etc. There is a pre-k time and baby toddler group for moms with children in the core k - 5/6 grade program but have young children as well. Moms stay for the day and help out.
