Studio Art Classes


Saturday Teens - Ages 13 and up

These classes are designed for high school students with a passion for art. What better place to learn how to become an artist than surrounded by a renowned art museum collection? By signing up for both classes, students are receive a well rounded art foundation preparing them for college, advance them in school, or propel their individual artistic pursuits. Students can begin to build or expand their portfolio for their continuing growth as young artists.

Both classes are taught by actual artists and art instructors.

For those staying for both classes, lunch may be purchased from the Museum Cafe or brought from home. Saturday Teens students will also receive an ID card which may be used for themselves and a guest to visit the Museum galleries throughout the semester.

Sculpture and 3D Design
Instructor: Veronique Cote

This is an introductory course on the basic principles of three-dimensional art. The class will concentrate on design elements and principles, compositional techniques, craftsmanship, and design vocabulary all within a conceptual framework. Students will create small-scale sculptural projects. Class will also consist of short lectures, slide presentations and walks through the Museum and group discussions.

Drawing and 2D Design
Instructor: Amanda Kamen

The aim of this course is to introduce a variety of drawing techniques, vocabulary, and media. Students will come away form this course with an introduction to drawing as an exciting and limitless process. Classes Will consist of drawing exercises as well as participating in demonstrations and critiques. Demonstrations will concentrate on the use of a material or the visual explanation of a concept. Critiques are a respectful forum where students can share their work and ides with the rest of the class. Along with generating further discussion and ideas, critiques can supply helpful advice to artists on how to improve his/her work.

Saturday January 12 - April 15th
(no classes January 19, February 16th, March 22nd)

Times:
Sculpture & 3D Design: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm*
Drawing & 2D Design: 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm*
* If taking both classes, students can bring a bag lunch and visit the museum exhibits and sculpture gardens during the break.

Cost:
$220 for members
$250 for non-members

If enrolling in both classes there is a price break:
$375 for members
$455 for non-members
